June 24

Hey family!!

So I don't really know how much I really explained about what happened this past transfer but here are a few interesting and funny things that happened:
My companion is Elder Irvine. He was transferred to the Council Creek and Forest Grove 1st Wards in January 2013 serving with Elder Wohleeben. In February those wards were split and I replaced Elder Irvine and he was my District Leader. Then in May he was transferred to Dairy Creek Ward and I replaced him as the District Leader so I was his DL and he was my ZL. Well now we are companions for a little while. We go home together so we think that one of us is probably going to be transferred. Our Zone is really big and has a lot of companionship's and we know that there are going to be more added in this next transfer so our guess is that our zone is going to be split. Probably I will get sent down to McMinnville and they will make a McMinnville zone. I really hope that they don't because Elder Irvine and I get along really well. But I guess that if there is one thing that I have learned is that what I want is usually not what is best for me but what the Lord wants is always best.

Also interesting is who is Elder Walkers new companion. In Tualatin I trained Elder Byam and then I left and he trained. I then came to Council Creek and eventually trained Elder Walker. Well now Elder Walker is companions with Elder Dedrickson who was trained by Elder Byam. So my mission "son" is being follow up trained by my mission "grandson"

This week has been crazy but awesome. We have just been going and going. So my entire mission if there was ever a question I would just have it go up the line and someone would figure it out. Well now I am in a leadership position so I am in a place to make some decisions. But actually it feels like a lot more than what it should be. Mostly because I am now in a new mission (in another week). Well because of that President Morby isn't making any decisions for our areas and our zone. He wants President Samuleon to be able to make those decisions. So It feels like we are mission presidentless. I guess that we have one but he is in the MTC right now. It just feels super weird. We have so many questions that are not being answered but if we need to know then I guess that we will know.

I really love my new area. We are teaching many people and the ward is very supportive. There will be many great things that happen here.

Is there a more exciting time to be a missionary? The changes that were announced yesterday will really push this work in the right direction. All I can say is that we are in the 11th hour. We have been for 200ish years but the time is getting shorter and you can feel the urgency around this work.

Thanks for all that you do for me! I love you all!

Brother Heyen

Elder Hatch could not send you an email today because of transfers. He was transferred to Banks Oregon which is very close to where he was before in Cornelius. He is also now a zone leader. He will email you details tomorrow. We have attached a picture of him saying hello from our house. We have really enjoyed having your son here in our ward.

Hello once again!

Well it is now official (well as of July 1st) I am no longer in the Oregon Portland Mission. Transfers was a little crazy yesterday. I got transferred within the same district from Cornelius to Banks. I am now even farther out in the country. It is way nice though, I really like it. My new companion is Elder Irvine from Murray. I made it 21 months without having a Utah companion but all good things must come to an end I guess. We are over the Forest Grove and McMinnville Districts which I am super excited for because now I get to go back out to my old area! I also got a car upgrade! I now get a Subaru Legacy, I think I might have to take back some of the bad things that I said about Subaru's because I really like it.  I guess that I could just be corn flaking but it is way nice.

Thanks for getting my schooling figured out. That sounds perfect.

Love you!

Talk to you next week!

Dustin

PS So the first transfer for the OSM is on 7/24/13 so that would put the transfer that I go home on 9/4/13. You might want to call the mission office still to make sure but I think that is what is going to happen. Also did you talk to them about coming and getting me? If not you probably want to do that soon because I think they make travel arrangements early.

Hey!!

So you can call the office anytime (maybe not today) because they all ready know which mission I am going to be in. Also you may have gotten an e-mail from the Heyen's if so awesome if not all they were going to tell you is that I am getting transfered. He was also going to tell you where so that you didn't have to wait and see where I ended up. Elder Heyen is the Vehicle Coordinator for the mission and he knows where I am getting transfered and has known for a while. It is kinda fun having them in my ward because he is always trying to get you to guess what is going to happen with transfers because he has a " more perfect knowledge." So I am getting transfered to a car area and I am not training. That is all that I really know. I have a few guess based off of some things that Elder Heyen said but all they are is guesses at best.

It sounds like our family needs to be put into a padded room! Holy Cow!!!! Everyone is falling apart. I guess we all just need to be a little more careful.

As far as classes go... Whatever... I don't really know what I need at this point in time. I think that all I would say is that I want to be at least full time (12+ credits). Other than that I don't know. I am sure that the two of you can figure it out just fine.

So it was a lot harder to leave this area than I thought it was going to be. I always felt like the missionary that was just here to work and nothing else. Which I do work hard but I felt very out of balance here. But yesterday I realized how much love I had for the people here and how much love they had for me.

We had an awesome week. The Mission tour was awesome! Elder Whiteing came and it was really great! Durring the leadership meeting he talked about having Celestial districts and zones. It was awesome! We also saw many miracles happen throughout the week. I really feel that I can say that I am leaving the area better than I found it.

I love you all!! Have a great week!!

June 16, 2013 - Letter from President Morby

Dear Elder and Sisters,

It is late night and I have a flood of emotions as I write to you all tonight. Tomorrow we will all gather as the OPM. History will be made as the beginning of the new missions will begin on July 1st. So we have a lot of work to do between now and then so do not waste any time in the next two weeks and beyond.

From our Mission Tour with Elder Whiting we learned that the number one chapter in Preach My Gospel that we need help in is Chapter One... The Missionary Purpose. I know you can all quote it, but is it a part of your life?  We learned how simple the pathway is to the highest kingdom in the Celestial Kingdom which is by our Faith in Jesus Christ and His Atonement, repentance, baptism, receiving the Gift of the Holy Ghost, and enduring to the end, the endowment in the temple with our family, qualifies us for exaltation. This doctrine we teach is not only for our investigators but for us as well. Study Chapter One as well as the other chapters noted in the information below for our zone conferences. We still have much to do, so practice what we preach and endure to the end and then we are off to new beginning.

Go forth no matter what mission you are in with obedience, diligence and nothing but hard work. Be an example of what we are called to do and who we represent. Teach and preach like never before. No matter what Mission President looks at your picture on the transfer board in the office, be the kind missionary that can be placed anywhere with anyone. Be the missionary that a Mission President will be able to trust.  For those who need to make a new resolve to be a better and be more obedient as a missionary then do it! For those who do not need to have a new start then “carry on”. Be the missionary that makes good things happen, with a positive attitude.

We love you all and will look forward to an eternal relationship with each of you.

June 9

Hey!

This past week has been really good. It really flew by fast. It is great that when you always have things to do how fast the time flies by.  We are working with a bunch of people and we are really trying to get them to progress in the gospel. It is so sad to see people make commitments and not keep them. I guess all we can do is invite.

Leatha is doing great though! When we went to the temple with them Elder Walker and I took their picture and we had an 8x10 collage of them and the temple printed off and then bought a frame and gave it to her yesterday at church. She broke down in tears. She really loved it. She asked if she could hug us and we said sorry but no she grabbed our hands and held on tight. Then she aske if we really couldn't hug. She is such a neat lady and she is an awesome member of the church. Now all we need to do is to get her husband to join her.

Things here are really starting to gear up... Lots to do that is for sure! Here are the big events that we have over the next few weeks....

1) Tuesday: we are on exchanges with the other Elders in the District
2) Thursday: Mission Tour with Elder Whiting of the 70
3) Saturday: Transfer Calls go out and we find out if we are going to be transferred or not
4) Monday: Transfers- This transfer is going to be a mission wide transfer where all missionaries are to be there even if they are not going to be transfered. That meens that there will be 272 full time missionaries in one place. Talk about POWER!
5) Sunday June 23: MTC Broadcast, I have no idea what it is about but it should be exciting. All full missionaries (I beleive in the world but I am not sure about that) are to attend.
6) Monday July 1: New missions in place. I could be in the Portland (President Morby), Salem (President Samulen), or Washington Vancouver (President Taylor) missions.

So next Monday I will know for sure which mission I will be in. Whatever area we are in is which mission we will serve. I am about 99% sure that I will be transfered. We don't get to take P-day on Tuesday next week so I will let you know next Monday if I am being transferred or not... Then you will just have to wait for another week to find out where I actually landed:) Welcome to the waiting game!

Things have really been going well. My allergies have been killing me. I went through a box of tissues in less than three days. I went and bought some Alegra which helped but it is still bad. Oh well I guess that is what happens when you serve in the allergy capitol of the world. I think that the worst part is everyone saying, "You look really tired!" I can't help that my eyes are swolen. Other than that I don't have any complaints.

Thanks for all that you do!!!
Love YA!
Dustin

Hey!

Sounds like a crazy week!! That is so exciting that Krystal flies out tomorrow! She will be such a good missionary.

This week was a little different. We had 10 canceled appointments and were dropped by three investigators. But as our Bishop said, "Some weeks you eat the peanut and some weeks you eat the shell." Even with all of that we had a really great week. Yesterday in church Leatha got up and bore her testimony! She has had a whirl wind story. May 18th-baptized May 26th-confirmed May 28-Interview with Bishop May 29-Temple Baptisms. She is so excited about the gospel. We are working and trying to get her husband to progress. I have no doubt that he will be baptized soon.

It is cool that we have so much support from the ward. I really feel like I am almost under using the ward just because I am so used to not having such easy access to help. It is great!

It is such an exciting time to be a missionary! You can really see the Lord at work in all that is happening.

Love you all!!
